Gus Butcher |
| Biography: Gus was born in Austria but grew up and was educated in England. He was a civil engineer by profession, but when he came to Key West in 1991, he decided to become an artist. Having painted on silk as a hobby, this now became his way of life. Practicing the French Serti technique, he handpaints silk both as wearable art and art to frame. Being self-taught, he has developed his own technique of mixing and applying dye. His works are worn and shown in many parts of the world. He now specializes in lightboxes - backlit silk paintings mounted in a special frame. This enhances the already brilliant colors and makes a novel display both day and night.
