Alannala, also named Alan Lau Wai-Lun, graduated from the Fine Arts Department, The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1994. He won the Raymond Woon Creative Prize for his graduation work and has pursued painting as his career ever since. Since 1993 he has had eight solo painting exhibitions and participated in over twenty group shows. His works are being collected by private collectors, art consultants, the Town Imaizumi Museum, Japan and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Washington DC, San Francisco, Geneva and Brussels. He had been chosen as a winner of 2002-2003 Vermont Studio Center Freeman Fellowship and attended the residency at Vermont Studio Center from 27 October to 19 December 2002. This Award included a cultural trip to New York City at the conclusion of the residency.

Life itself is fragile, yet the energy it radiates is powerful and infinite. Flowers that are perceived to be weak and fragile are transformed into sheer energy and impact through the powerful representation on the canvas. It is the artist, Alannala's way of expressing the implicit essence of life.
