I grew up in a Greek family which was very expressive. My family did not censor what they thought or felt – it would be considered rude to do so. With all the drama going on around me – people never paused to understand or reflect on the moment.
I try to paint familiar, simple things. I want to convey a sense of modern humanity about the characters in my pictures - particularly what they are feeling at that moment in time - brewing sexuality, boredom, satisfaction or anxiety.
I have a tendency to speed through life. I paint because it helps me to stop and observe the world around me and in my imagination. |
