John DeMarco was born and raised in Philadelphia, and briefly attended the Philadelphia College of Art before dropping out to pursue independent studies. Since 1987, after a startling and profound spiritual experience, he turned almost exculsively to working with the form of both geometric and abstract mandalas. He has, since then, re-incorporated representational imagery such as figures, portraits, and nature studies, but always within the context of spiritual understanding. His primary medium is oil on a variety of surfaces, but he also works with mixed wet/dry media on paper and board as well as three-dimensional works in wood. |
