I am a self-taught outsider artist born and resident in Rockford, Illinois. A full-time professional for twenty years, I am represented by several national galleries. My work is in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Smithsonian Art Museum, and the Museum of American Folk Art, and I am one of the few living painters profiled in The Encyclopedia of American Folk Art (Wertkin, 2004).
Developing my own techniques, I originally worked in tempera, but am now using acrylic paint, often with Prismacolor overworkings. I have created over 1200 works in a variety of subject matter, but have always had a primary interest in feminine portraiture, being inspired by vintage films, history, and mythology. I am currently focusing as well on anthropomorphic fantasy tableaux and faux pulp art. |
