Casinos Gambling in Doomtown
Many of the Doomtown cards have the same or similar names to cardrooms. Some
are still open for business such as:
-
Casino Morongo
Pursuant to a contract with the Tribal Council of the Morongo Band of Mission
Indians, E.C. Investments, Inc. (ECI) managed and operated a casino on the Morongo
Indian Reservation in Riverside County, California. In 1994, a federal grand jury
returned an indictment charging ECI and certain of its officers and consultants with
running an illegal gambling business.
The District Court dismissed the indictments. The government appealed
and the Ninth Circuit overruled the District Court.
Nevertheless, Casino Morongo remains open for business 24 hrs a day, 7 days
a week between Palm Springs and Banning. Take Interstate 10 east or west to the Fields Rd.
Exit. Turn north and proceed east along Seminole Drive towards the casino.
Phone: 909.849.3080. Under decree, persons 17 and under are not allowed
to gamble. As to the authority of the State of California to prevent children from
gambling on Indian Reservations, see generally
Seminole Tribe of Florida vs. Florida U.S. Supreme Court, 1996.
Casino Morongo chips are sold to and redeemed for gamblers at the Casino Morongo.
May 14, 1998 Update -- Morongo Indians defy
U.S. and California. Citing Indian sovereign rights, the Morongo
band of Mission Indians rejected the Wilson Administration demand that Casino
Morongo gambling machines be disabled as a precondition of negotiating a gambling
compact. Responding to the warning of the four U.S. attorneys in California that
the federal government would move against the casino, Mary Ann Marin Andreas, chairwoman
of the Morongo band stated : "The Department of Justice held a gun to our head and the
state of California mugged us."

FULL MOON SALOON
at Coyote Creek Casino
The Full Moon Saloon is housed in a renovated nineteenth century brick
building in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The action is underneath the saloon.
A print resembling the Doomtown Full Moon Card down to the sunglasses and
a poster of Colorado collectable poker chips hang on the walls.
Two dudes, Jim and Sir Scott, are running a crowded card room.
Jim is tall, has long brown hair in a pony tail, and is wearing jeans, and the
Coyote Creek uniform, a T-shirt featuring a bare assed couple drinking under a full moon.
Scott has cropped blond hair, and seven earrings, six in his left ear each with a
moving ball, and one in his right. His T-shirt sleeves are rolled
up showing bulging extravagantly tattooed biceps. Jim watches
Scott deal. Scott's eye I eye -- he is irrepressibly happy ... but
why?
"Drinks?" Jim asks us, holding a cell phone. Story to be continued.
