|Alice Burton||Biography: Alice Burton is an Honours Fine Arts graduate of York University
Toronto, Canada. She majored in Painting and Drawing doing independent studies with Ronald Bloore and Claude Breeze. In 1998 she participated in a workshop with Eric Fichel and in 2000 with Susan Rothenberg.
She is a member of Visual Arts Ontario and the Society of Canadian Artists. In Toronto her works have been exhibited in a number of Solo, Group and Juried exhibitions at the Westdale Gallery in Hamilton. In Toronto at the Moore Gallery, the Fran Hill Gallery, The Teodora Gallery, the Here and Now Gallery, the John B. Aird Gallery, the Wagner Rosenbaum Gallery, the Gairloch Gallery in Oakville, the Art Gallery at the Mississauga and the Frederick H. Varley Gallery in Unionville. Her works have been exhibited at ARTSFORUM and Audart in New York City. Her exhibition “ The Silk Road and Beyond at The Jamie Kennedy Restaurant at The Royal Ontario Museum in 2002 was curated by Ming Tiampo.
During 2003 she had a number of works on exhibiton in Berlin and touring three cities in Spain, Madrid, Seville and Barcelona. In 2004 her works will continue touring in Spain with a group of artists that exhibit in New York, She will have a solo exhibition at the Moore Gallery in Toronto titled “Downriver” Opening June 24 and continuing until July 11. In September will participate in a group exhibition at C2 Gallery in Stoke Hammond, England.
There is a strong emphasis on colour, texture, line and composition in her work. After spending a part of her childhood in the Maritimes and the West Indies she developed a love of travel. Like many artists her work has been enriched by these experiences. She combines a knowledge of art history, which tends to be a Western interpretation, with the artistic expression of other non-western cultures that are rich in iconography, pattern and textures. Often, there are references to Myth and Symbolism in her work. Her works are seen in a number of corporate and private collections in North America .
