Barry Launius

Biography: Barry's work is self described as " tropical theme-hard watercolor painting." Very little water and a lot of paint! Vibrant and strong, unlike most "pastel-soft style" so often thought of as watercolors. Barry Launius, born and raised in landlocked MidWest,USA. No formal art training other than all the art classes offered through college at SMSU in Springfield,MO. Began traveling the tropics in 85', married in Hawaii to best friend,Phyllis, no children, two dogs and a passion for the tropics. After years of frequenting the tropics (Caribbean mostly), the allure and passion led to a hobby of watercolor paintings depicting the scenes remebered and photographed on these trips. What once was a hobby became a full-fledged obsession to live, love and paint what comes naturally. Over the past several years a strong attraction to the Mayan Riveria of the Mexican Yucatan coast and the outer Cayes of Belize has inspired Barry's work. Barry's work is sold in many Caribbbean locations including Cozumel,Playa del Carmen and Akumal MX, San Pedro,Ambergris Caye,Belize and the island of St. Thomas,USVI. A one week solo exhibit in Jan. 02' at the Grand Renaissance Beach Resort on St. Thomas was a highlight!
