 | Biography: Artist’s Statement
There are formative energies that govern the natural shapes of both living and non-living matter, in
dimensions that range from the microscopic to the cosmic. These energies come together first by a
mutual attraction and then by superimposing themselves on each other. Everything that is created in
our universe begins with this process of superimposition – everything from the formation of cells, to
embryos, seeds, and the shapes of sea shells, to the movement of tides, hurricanes, and even galaxies.
From observing these processes of nature I take the basic shapes and transform them through the
process of painting. The curving, rhythmic forms converge on each other, spinning and intertwining in
charged, kinetic systems. Through this process of paint moving through tension and charge, expansion
and contraction, my own interpretation of these natural shapes and movements evolve into abstract
forms on the canvas.
Biography
Though born in Manhattan, Chris was raised in East Hampton, Long Island. The once quiet, rural
community nurtured his early interest in the arts and he gained much inspiration from the natural
beauty of the area. While in college Chris explored various fields of study including fine arts, literature,
and architecture. After graduating he worked in the independent film business and then journeyed
through mainland Asia for an extended period of time before returning to the U.S. to start his career as
an artist. Chris currently lives and works in East Hampton.
