Gerardo Macias-Garcia

Biography: One of the most influential things on art is culture. Traditions, history and legacy blend together to act as a keyhole for the artist’s soul; all my work is created around this notion and the central belief of representing who I am. This process - influenced by traditional iconographies, colors and concepts - has taken me to rediscover my Mexican roots and myself. BIO Gerardo was born in Monterrey, NL, Mexico in 1978. After studying Architecture for a couple of years he decided to switch majors and chose the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit, Michigan, to study Fine Arts. After graduating from CCS with honors in 2002, he started to work for the Mexican Federal Government at the Consulate of Mexico in Detroit, directing its cultural and social aid foundation: the Institute of the Mexicans in Michigan and Ohio. Gerardo has curated, organized, and participated in solo and group shows in Italy, Mexico, Romania, Russia, and the U.S. Currently, he also manages the Community Affairs Department at the Consulate of Mexico and is a Board Member of The Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit (CAID) and Casa de Unidad-Cultural Arts Center in the Mexican Town district, where he usually creates his sculptures, murals and paintings. www.gerardomacias.net info@gerardomacias.net Country: USA Birthyear: 1978 Media: mixed media Style: abstract Subjects: people, portraits and characters
