Michael Stephen Fenton

Biography: I prefer expression to impression and narrative to realism but I try to create a nostalgic view of ordinary things. I'm a representational-narrative painter who wants, more than anything, to tell a story and communicate my attitude about the subject and evoke a reaction. My work comes from a combination of personal experience and my emotional connection to the subject. I believe in the power of storytelling to communicate ideas and emotions. Underneath today’s technocratic and superficial world is a slipstream of history and its people and some kind of collective unconscious. By allowing external forces to invade my mind, I hope to integrate them with my experiences to create a story in a picture. I strive to incorporate three things in my work - a story, bold color and a piece of history.” Country: United States Galleries: Gaelen, New Jersey Center for Visual Arts, Thomas King Museum, Papermill Theater, Reginald Winters Gallery, and others.
