Tara Sullivan

Biography: biography Tara Sullivan is an artist, poet and a student of philosophy.   She strives to be a renaissance woman through all her endeavors. She was born in Chapel Hill, NC on what she says jokingly is the coldest day of the year: January 21.  Luckily, it was the south, and she realized that she didn't know the meaning of cold until she moved to Laramie, Wyoming with her parents at the age of 13.  Despite the cold, Tara was taken by the wide open skies of Wyoming which continue to inspire her artistic temperament to this day.  Tara received a bachelor of arts in art, with a minor in writing and literature from Naropa University in Boulder, CO.  At Naropa she embraced the art of meditation as well as T'ai Chi and Aikido.  Her art education included the little taught eastern arts of Chinese calligraphy and Tibetan Thangka painting.  She says through meditation and a contemplative art education she began to learn how to "see" unhindered, by cultivating mindfulness in everyday life.  Tara also pursued writing poetry and prose at the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics.  Upon completing her studies at Naropa she continued writing and art-making.  She worked as a personal care provider for the elderly and infirmed and numerous odd-jobs.  She has pursued professional studentdom, studying art for a year at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago before moving back to Laramie to live and study philosophy. She has also traveled to Florence, Italy and Cadaques, Spain to study painting with Fantastic Realist Robert Venosa and Magical Realist Martina Hoffman.  Travel and meeting new people along the way has been a source of inspiration. the art Neo-surreal, contemporay abstraction, visionary, experimental, continually seeking a unique synthesis of the mental and the physical.
