The Digital Consciousness Artist Database

This database is constructed from the information submitted by artists who register with Digital Consciousness, and from the comments of the Digital Color jury.

Digital Consciousness publishes registries for these artists that generally consist of an image or sample of the artist's work, the artist's copyright notice, a description of the artwork, a java script viewer, a biography and links to the artist's current projects. A link to and summary of each of these registries is included in the database. Follow this link to register.

A portion of the database concerning renowned artists is constructed from information provided by museums and collectors.

Renowed Artists

Listed in reverse chronological order as to date of birth.
Paul Cadmus (1905-1999) Figurative and satirical American artist Paul Cadmus first gained fame -- and notoriety -- with his Depression-era "The Fleet's In," a painting roundly denounced by a Navy official as the depiction of "a disreputable drunken brawl" by an artist with a "sordid, depraved imagination."
Chen Chi Chen Chi was born in Wusih, Kiangsu, China in 1912. In the 1930s he studied painting, seeking new aesthetic expression and ideals at a time when China was searching for her new life. His list of exhibitions and awards is extensive. By 1978 he had exhibited at the following:
  • The Metropolitan Museum of Art
  • Corcoran Art Gallery
  • Whitney Museum of American Art
  • The American Academy of Arts and Letters
  • The Brooklyn Museum
  • Los Angeles County Museum of Art
Martin Johnson Heade (1818-1904) Among nineteenth-century American painters, Martin Johnson Heade was one of the most inventive, versatile, and prolific -- his active career spanned almost seventy years. Between 1871 and 1902, he painted a series of complex compositions that combine hummingbirds and lush tropical flowers, particularly orchids, in landscape settings he had studied on his travels. There are quite simply no other paintings like those known in America or elsewhere.
Theodore Wildanger Theodore Wildanger (1905-1989) was born in Aumetz, France. During WWI Théo supplemented his diet, whenever possible, by acquiring food, by art, from soldiers in the neighborhood of Aumetz. When Theo's wife died, Theo began to paint prolifically until his death.
